Ripon council adopts rezone ordinance, delegates deed acceptance for church grant

On Jan. 13 Ripon City Council approved a second-reading adoption of Ordinance 9 33, a rezoning measure that staff said will take effect 30 days after adoption. A motion to waive the reading and adopt the ordinance was moved and seconded and the council passed the ordinance.
City attorney/administrator Kevin Terpstra told the council a separate packet resolution needed updating because Calvary Reformed Church "has not yet executed the grant deed," and staff expected the deed to be executed later in the week. Terpstra said he prepared a redlined revision that delegates authority to the mayor to accept the deed when tendered; the council moved, seconded and approved the revised resolution.
Both actions were taken as council motions; the ordinance will become effective in 30 days and the mayor will be authorized to accept the grant deed when it is submitted by the church.
