Commissioners discuss solar site maintenance, a Reeves Road fire and 2026 calendar

On solar, staff said the Lou Jones solar project will be heard by the Board of Supervisors next Tuesday. Commissioners described receiving an invitation to tour a solar facility in Chesterfield/Moseley and exchanged observations about site maintenance, vegetation control and grazing. One commissioner referenced a recent fire at a Reeves Road solar site and linked tall, dry grass beneath panels to fire risk; another described well-maintained sites where owners used grazing (sheep) or active mowing to keep vegetation low.
Commissioners suggested the idea of more explicit maintenance standards or an ordinance to address tall vegetation around solar facilities, while acknowledging some aspects of vegetation management may be handled in private operator-owner agreements.
Next steps: Staff will present the proposed 2026 meeting calendar at the organizational meeting and the Lou Jones solar matter will proceed to the Board of Supervisors for review next week.
