Dinwiddie supervisors appoint Brenda E. Bonner chair, Casey Dooley vice chair for 2026

Brenda E. Bonner was appointed chair of the Dinwiddie County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 6 after a roll-call vote that recorded four ayes and one abstention.

The board opened nominations at the organizational meeting; Speaker 4 nominated Bonner and Speaker 1 seconded the nomination. When the roll call was taken, the clerk recorded four ayes and one abstention, with the named roll-call responses listed in the minutes. The resolution to appoint Bonner was adopted.

Board members paid tribute to outgoing 2025 chair Daniel Lee before nominations. A board member (Speaker 5) praised Lee’s leadership and noted that "this board years ago decided to rotate its chairmanship," calling the practice wise because it "allows everybody the opportunity to sit in the seat as the chair." The comments accompanied presentation of a commemorative gavel honoring Lee’s service.

The board then moved to select a vice chair. After nominations were closed, the board considered a resolution to appoint Casey Dooley as vice chair. The roll call on that resolution recorded four ayes and one abstention (Dooley abstained); the resolution was adopted.

All formal votes recorded at the meeting were by roll call. The organizational actions on Jan. 6 complete the board’s leadership slate for 2026 and will guide who presides over meetings and committee assignments through the year.

The board’s minutes list the present members at the start of the meeting as Dooley, Doctor Moore, Chavis, Bonner and Lee. No contested policy actions or amendments to county code were taken during the organizational appointments.
