Commission recommends rezoning of two Nottoway Avenue lots to Residential Urban

The Dinwiddie County Planning Commission voted to forward rezoning case P-25-11 to the Board of Supervisors with a recommendation of approval. The application, filed by Bostick Real Estate Properties, LLC, requests rezoning of two lots on Nottoway Avenue from Business General (B-2) to Residential Urban (RU).
Planning staff told commissioners the RU zoning classification is appropriate for this location within the town-center area of the county’s comprehensive plan and is compatible with surrounding zoning and land uses: “We do feel like the requested zoning classification, residential urban RU is compatible with the surrounding zoning pattern and surrounding land uses,” staff said.
The applicant’s agent, identified in the record as Ronald H., spoke for the owner and said the owner was out of town. The agent described a proposed single-family plan and said the current house is nonconforming because of prior blanket commercial zoning; rezoning to RU would make the house conforming and ease marketing and potential residential improvements.
On a roll call, commissioners voted to recommend the rezoning to the Board of Supervisors; staff will forward the record and the planning commission’s recommendation.
