Dinwiddie planning panel tables Witt rezoning after applicants don’t attend hearing

The Dinwiddie County Planning Commission on its regular meeting tabled rezoning application P-25-10, a request from Anne Witt and Walter Witt to reclassify a parcel on Simmons Avenue from Business General (B-2) to Residential Limited (R-1).
Planning staff presented the application and recommended approval, saying the requested R-1 classification is compatible with surrounding zoning and the county’s comprehensive land-use plan: “Staff is recommending this evening, approval of the rezoning request,” staff noted during the presentation.
No applicant or representative was present at the public hearing. Commissioners debated whether to act without the applicants; one commissioner said of applicants’ absence, “If you can't come to your own hearing, I mean, do you really want it?” Several members said they would prefer applicants appear in person.
A motion to table the case until the commission’s next regular meeting carried on a roll call of members present. The tabling leaves the public-hearing record open and gives the applicants an opportunity to attend or send a representative and to present any additional materials.
What’s next: P-25-10 will return to the commission’s agenda at the next regular meeting. Staff will notify the applicants and will provide any requested materials to commissioners ahead of that meeting.
