Gulf County qualifies two firms for fire-truck repairs to shorten repair times

The Gulf County Board of County Commissioners voted to qualify two firms to perform repairs and maintenance on county fire apparatus, county staff said.
Mr. Hammond presented a memorandum recommending that both 10 8 Fire and Safety and Tactical Fire LLC be designated as qualified mechanics. He explained the county wants two qualified vendors 'so our fire trucks [can be] up and running' promptly if one firm cannot meet a timing need.
Under the recommended approach, chiefs may approve repairs under $500 without additional quotes; repairs above $500 require a verbal quote from one of the two qualified firms and repairs of $3,000 or more require written quotes from both firms to be considered together with Mr. Hammond and staff.
Commissioners asked how many firms applied; staff said only the two proposed firms applied and noted Tactical Fire LLC has a presence on East Bay while its original LLC was formed in Georgia. Commissioners emphasized local response times and continuity of service as reasons for awarding qualifications to both firms.
Commissioner Husband moved to award both firms as qualified mechanics; the motion was seconded and the chair recorded the motion as passed, with no public opposition reported.
