Summary
Staff briefed commissioners on FDOT schedules and the need to select five candidate roads for upcoming SCOP/SCRAP/CIGP applications; Country Club Road, Long Avenue design and phased Dow Keith construction were highlighted.
County staff presented the list of FDOT funding opportunities and asked commissioners to prioritize candidate roads for upcoming grant applications (two SCOP, two SCRAP and one CIGP). Several previously submitted projects — including Country Club Road and a Freeman‑Rouse/Del Lakes Drive combination — were identified as strong candidates for re‑submission.
Staff explained Long Avenue currently has design funding and is scheduled for construction funding in FY2028 (construction after July 2027). Dow Keith Road will be designed as one project but built in two construction phases: Lower Dalkeith to Mace Martin and Mace Martin to the end of pavement, with the first construction phase expected to be bid after July.
Commissioners asked that staff prepare the five‑road packet for the end‑of‑month deadline and noted local concerns about state‑caused damage to some county roads during hurricane detours. "We need to press upon the new secretary that this needs to be funded," one commissioner said when recounting damage to Country Club Road after a storm bypass.
Next steps: staff will circulate the proposed five‑road list, coordinate with commissioners on local priorities and prepare applications for the March cycle.
