Community group asks Waukegan board for soccer-field waiver; staff to bring item back Jan. 27

At the Jan. 13 meeting of the Waukegan CUSD 60 Board of Education, Isamar Abundez, speaking in public comment, requested that the district grant a facility rental waiver and deferral of fees so Kosmos soccer can use district soccer fields for youth programming. Abundez said the league provides liability insurance, follows district protocol and serves a range of age divisions.
Board members and staff clarified the timing and process: district staff told Abundez and the board that the recommendation will return to the full Board for action at the Jan. 27 regular meeting and that the Kosmos request had been placed on the board agenda as an information item for the Jan. 13 session. A board member noted that public comment is not typically used for negotiations, but staff confirmed the item will be brought back and that Martinez will notify the requester about next steps.
No vote was taken on Jan. 13. Staff said the item will be on the Jan. 27 agenda and that the board will vote then.
