Dearborn Heights council elects Hassan Ahmad chair, Asin Saab named pro tem

Hassan Ahmad was elected council chair at the Dearborn Heights City Council meeting on Jan. 13 after a nomination and roll‑call procedure administered by City Clerk Lynn Sena. Ahmad assumed the gavel within minutes of the vote and led the rest of the meeting.
Council members then nominated and selected Asin (Saab) as council pro tem. Both selections were made by voice/hand vote under the clerk’s described nomination process; the clerk declared the motions carried and the newly seated chair assumed management of the meeting.
The reorganizational votes were routine steps in the council’s first session of 2026 and followed the clerk’s explanation of the nomination and voting process. The newly seated leadership immediately moved to conduct standard agenda business, including agenda approval and committee motions.
