At its first regular meeting of 2026, the Town of Merrillville Council approved the consent agenda by voice vote and confirmed several executive and council appointments.
Items on the consent agenda included the accounts payable register voucher for Jan. 13, the ARP accounts payable register for Jan. 13, and minutes from December 22 and December 23 meetings. The council moved to approve the consent agenda; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote with all present members saying "Aye." The record shows six members were present and the motion carried.
On appointments, the council announced it would appoint Brian Gong to serve as a registered Republican on the Plan Commission and reappoint James Kendig to the Stormwater Management Board. Councilors Rhonda Neal and Hardaway will continue on the Fire Protection Territory Board. The council also confirmed selections for the Redevelopment Commission and other standing committee assignments with motions that were moved, seconded and carried.
All appointments were adopted by voice vote at the meeting; no roll-call tallies with individual member votes were recorded in the transcript.
