West Petersburg resident asks board for traffic study and stormwater fixes ahead of new housing

At the public-comment portion of the Nov. 18 meeting, West Petersburg resident Maya Akins asked the board to order a traffic study and set a timeline for stormwater and traffic improvements in her neighborhood.
Akins described narrow streets where two cars cannot safely pass, repeated speeding and dangerous driving behaviors including "spinouts," and years of stormwater flooding that damages property and creates hazards. She asked the board to consider proven traffic-calming measures such as signage, sidewalks, speed bumps or raised crosswalks and requested community engagement as a next step before new housing proceeds in the area.
Board members who heard the comment said they would follow up, and the chair invited Akins to meet with staff to discuss next steps and the county's planning and stormwater processes.
