Planning commission backs rezoning request for Witt property, forwards to supervisors

The Dinwiddie County Planning Commission on Sept. 10 voted to recommend approval of a rezoning request for a parcel owned by Ann and David Witt.
Planning staff reintroduced PD-25-10 and said the proposal would reclassify the property from B-2 (business general) to R-1 (residential limited), bringing the lot into conformity with surrounding parcels and the county comprehensive plan. "They're requesting to rezone the property to R-1 residential, to bring it into conformance with the comprehensive plan," Bassett said.
Erica Winn, a realtor with Real Broker representing the Witt family, told commissioners the owners have tried to sell the property for about a year and buyers typically planned residential rehabilitation. "We've been attempting to sell this property for approximately a year, and most of the traffic that we've gotten is desiring to rehab as residential," Winn said.
A motion was made and seconded to recommend the rezoning to the Board of Supervisors; the commission approved the recommendation by unanimous vote and staff said the item is scheduled for the Sept. 16 board meeting.
The commission’s action was a recommendation; the Board of Supervisors will decide final disposition.
