Board approves porch repair and replacement at 546 North 3rd Street after applicant cites prior damage

Sean Davis, co-owner of Better Choice Solutions and contractor on behalf of the property owner, presented an application for 546 North 3rd Street after a vehicle damaged the porch. "A car ran to his porch ... Knocked his porch down," Davis said, describing the damage and the need to reconstruct the porch.
Davis described proposed materials: Trex composite railings, 6-by-6 posts wrapped in composite, and VAF architectural shingles for the new roof. He said the base beneath the porch is concrete and that a previous stone railing had been removed before his contract began; he reported the adjuster could not locate the stone.
Board members compared the proposed design to a similar porch previously approved at 301 Linden Street and discussed whether the removed stone was original. Members concluded the porch as proposed would be visually compatible with the block and voted to approve the application by voice vote.
The approval covers the porch replacement and the screen door noted in the application; staff and the applicant discussed permits and follow-up inspection before work begins.
