Fair Oaks Ranch — Assistant City Manager Jim Williams briefed the council on the city’s strategic-plan initiative on Jan. 15, including the engagement and outreach schedule and a proposed online engagement portal.
Williams said the city engaged the Mejorondo Group (facilitator Patrick Ybarra) and aims to adopt the strategic plan by May 2026. The process is structured in five phases: initiation/contract administration; engagement/discovery (underway); issue identification; plan drafting; and review and adoption. Staff outlined engagement activities including a stakeholder meeting, five employee focus groups, two community open houses (Jan. 20: 1–3 p.m. and 7–9 p.m., come-and-go), and a council work session Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m. Staff proposed going live with an online engagement portal the following morning, pending council direction.
Council members discussed discussion-board moderation, polling and other features of the platform and asked staff to defer launching discussion boards until themes emerge in phase 2. Staff said the portal is hosted on the previously approved platform and can support polling and social-media aggregation; the steering committee and staff will refine the approach.
Why it matters: the plan will guide city policy and resource priorities; the public engagement phase offers residents multiple avenues to provide input.
Next steps: staff will launch the portal, conduct open houses on Jan. 20, and return draft themes and a council work session on Jan. 21.
