The Homer Glen Village Board approved a development application from Chase Bank on Jan. 6 to occupy a vacant property on S. Bell Road after the bank withdrew some special-use requests from an earlier proposal.
John Kristoff, Chase's market director for real estate, told trustees the bank had previously been denied several special uses less than six months earlier. Chase said it then reapplied, removing drive-up and other conditional elements and refocusing on a by-right full-service branch. Kristoff said the property's owner has offered a $35,000 donation to the Ability Awareness Committee; the village attorney reminded trustees that any donation offer must be excluded from deliberations on the application.
Trustees expressed a preference for restaurants and other sales-tax-generating businesses at the site, but several said they did not want the building to remain vacant. Trustee LaPore and Trustee Mason voiced conditional support; Trustee Schaller asked for clarification on the donor pledge and was reassured by the attorney that the pledge was not to be considered in the vote. The application passed on roll call with one recorded 'No' (Trustee Schaller) and the remaining trustees voting 'Aye.'
The approval permits the bank to operate at the location under the conditions of the approved site plan; trustees directed staff to ensure final engineering, landscaping, and building-code requirements are met before occupancy.
