Montgomery OKs easements for DuPage Water Commission metering stations; one vote split over location

The Village of Montgomery approved easements allowing the DuPage Water Commission to construct two metering stations that will serve as the handoff between commission-supplied Lake Michigan water and the village distribution system.
Engineer Ott told the board the metering stations will meter water being delivered by the commission and that the stations require easements on village-owned land. The west station (Galena Road) was described as sited on village land and the easement for construction and access was recommended for approval; the vote passed without recorded opposition.
The east station (Hill Avenue) requires an access easement that would cross a parcel containing the Ogden Hill tower. Trustees discussed construction access plans, restoration and whether temporary entrances off Hill Avenue would be used during construction. That easement passed on a 5'0''1 vote. One trustee explained the "no" vote later, saying the station's location impinges on a nearby corner home and argued it should be positioned closer to an existing water tower.
The board approved staff's motions to grant the easements and directed staff to ensure site restoration after construction. The split vote was recorded and the dissenting trustee's location concern will be part of the record when final construction plans are reviewed.
