At its Jan. 7 work session, the Village Council reviewed several operational and budget items the administration recommended for 2026.
Parks and recreation staff proposed purchasing and installing four 20-by-20 shade systems and associated hardware at Graydon Pool under a state contract, not to exceed $53,737 from the 2025 capital allocation, to replace shade lost when unhealthy trees were removed. Council members said they expect the work to be completed in time for the summer season.
Public works staff requested authorization to purchase rock salt under a Bergen County cooperative for an initial amount not to exceed $120,000; the quoted price was $78.48 per ton, up $3.74 per ton from last year. Administration said the order is an initial allocation and the council will be asked for additional purchases if the season requires more salt.
The council also reviewed a proposed continuation of a private-contractor elevator inspection program with Top Floor Elevated Solutions, which staff said has produced nearly $50,000 in additional inspection revenue over two years. Administration presented shared-service agreements for a monthly child health clinic with Fairlawn, Glenrock and Mahwah (each billed one-quarter of the pediatrician invoice plus a $500 administrative fee per town) and a continuation of a shared health officer arrangement with Mahwah through Dec. 31, 2027.
Staff proposed keeping most 2026 recreation fees (Graydon Pool, tennis, pickleball, summer camp) at 2025 levels while setting new rental fees for the mobile concession unit and the Habernacle Family Park Pavilion. The village engineer requested a stop sign at the entrance to the recycling center to protect staff during unloading operations. The administration also presented routine finance resolutions, budget transfers and a partial tax refund for a veteran as consent items for formal consideration at the next regular meeting.
