The Louisville Municipal School District board recognized teachers of the year from Farrar Elementary, Nana Waia Attendance Center, Island Middle, Lewisville High, Winston Wilson CTC and named a district teacher of the year.
The Louisville Municipal School District board honored teachers from across the district during its January meeting, recognizing classroom and career-technical instructors for their service and student impact.
Principals and program leaders presented individual awards. Sarah Webb, principal at Farrar Elementary, introduced Chiquita Carter, the school's librarian and Farrar's teacher of the year, saying Carter “treats every single one of [students and teachers] with love, with care, with guidance.” Miss Lee Maxey was named teacher of the year for Nana Waia Attendance Center; the presenter noted Maxey is National Board Certified and has more than 25 years of teaching experience. At Island Middle School, Mrs. Rachel Lyons was honored for leading TSA and for her long-standing support to students and staff.
Lewisville High School’s award went to Christie Lewis, credited with leadership roles on campus and work with student organizations. The Winston Wilson Career/Technical Center director recognized Bill White for building an industrial technology program that produced national certifications and dual-credit opportunities for students. A district-level teacher of the year — Miss McGee — was also recognized; presenters cited her more than 35 years of teaching, National Board certification, and leadership in positive behavior support that helped the school earn PBIS Tier 1 status.
Board members and presenters emphasized the local roots and community contributions of honorees, noting several are Louisville-grown and that the awards highlight classroom practices and student outcomes. The board closed the segment by thanking the teachers and announcing that parents of the year will be recognized at a future meeting.
