State lawmaker presents $1 million for Sycamore Park improvements in Fort Worth

Representative Nicole Collier (House District 95) attended the Jan. 13 Fort Worth City Council meeting to present a $1,000,000 check from the Texas Legislature for improvements at Sycamore Park. Parks and Recreation Director Dave Lewis introduced Representative Collier and described the funds as additional dollars from the legislative writers program, administered through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
"We have a check for $1,000,000 that we're presenting because we know the city of Fort Worth will put it to good use at Sycamore Park," Collier said, noting the park’s role as an inclusive community resource and urging the city to reallocate local funds planned for the project to other uses once the state money is accepted.
Dave Lewis told the council the funding will add amenities that accelerate a master plan the department is implementing. The check was accepted during the ceremonial portion of the meeting and councilmembers took photos with Representative Collier and Parks staff.
No vote was required to accept the ceremonial presentation; councilmembers thanked the Representative for her work on appropriations.
What’s next: Staff will integrate the state allocation into the Sycamore Park master-plan implementation; council and Parks Department staff indicated the grant will speed completion of planned amenities.
