Summary
Prosecuting Attorney Brandon Carter told the Quorum Court the hot-check fund began 2025 with $13,744.01, collected just over $5,000 during 2025, spent $11,353 and currently holds $7,548.24; the office proposed a $2,000 revenue projection for 2026 and modest operating budgets.
Prosecuting Attorney Brandon Carter updated the Washington County Quorum Court on the status of the prosecutor’s hot-check fund, summarizing receipts, expenditures and a modest budget request for 2026.
Carter said the fund opened at $13,744.01 at the end of 2024. In 2025 the prosecutor’s office collected just over $5,000 in hot-check fees, bringing total funds to roughly $19,000. Expenditures during the year — dominated by utilities (cell phones), travel for the hot-check coordinator’s training and software and office supplies — totaled about $11,353, leaving a balance of $7,548.24.
For 2026 the office proposed conservative revenue of $2,000 and budgeted $1,000 for supplies and $1,000 for software. Carter noted the office generally estimates low and provided an attached prosecutor’s policy on fee waivers for certain situations.
Carter said travel costs in 2025 included $1,700 for coordinator training, and that previous years' line items (like cell phones) had been transferred to the county general fund. He invited questions from justices and concluded the required annual report to the court.
The report was accepted by the court with no vote taken beyond acknowledgement of receipt.
