The Leavenworth City Commission voted unanimously to revoke any 2025 lodging license or operating permission for Home2Suites, 250 Delaware Street, citing repeated delinquencies on transient-guest taxes. The motion, moved and seconded on Jan. 8, concluded a months-long staff effort to collect overdue payments.
City Attorney David told the commission that Home2Suites “have been well behind on payment to the city of their transient guest taxes,” and staff had placed the 2025 license under temporary administrative suspension after late and partial payments. David said the city had invited the owner to a hearing and recommended completing the administrative process by formally revoking the 2025 license to close the matter on the record.
Commissioners pressed staff on enforcement options and the practical effects of the revocation. Commissioner (unnamed) said the situation created a “bad image” for the city, while others warned about the practicalities of stopping an operating hotel and the potential need to coordinate with law enforcement or corporate flag-holders if reservations exist.
The motion the commission adopted reads, in part, that “pursuant to charter ordinance number 16 and as a result of unpaid transient guest taxes, we permanently revoke any license or permission that the owner or operator of Home2Suites located 250 Delaware Street in Leavenworth currently has or may have to operate a hotel, motel, or lodging establishment at or from such location.” The vote recorded multiple ayes and carried unanimously.
City staff said they will continue administrative follow-up for the 2026 licensing period and attempt to work with the property owner on a payment plan or other compliance measures. Commissioners asked staff to provide timelineed updates to the commission on next steps and any impacts on reservations or public-safety obligations. The action formally resolves the 2025 licensing status and leaves 2026 licensing to administrative processes if the owner comes into compliance.
