The West Fargo Planning and Zoning Commission re-elected Mike Thorstead as chair and selected Dave Gust as vice chair during its Jan. 13 meeting. The commission holds its leadership elections at the first meeting of every year, a process staff said is required by the commission bylaws.
Staff member Aaron described the one-year terms and solicited nominations. Commissioner (unnamed in the audio) nominated Mike Thorstead to continue as chair; the nomination was seconded. During a roll-call vote, commissioners Schwann, Aman, Weary, Thorstead, Best, Fornace and Copp each answered "Yes," and the motion carried.
For the vice chair position, Commissioner (unnamed in the audio) nominated Dave Gust; a second was recorded and a roll-call vote followed. Commissioners Schwann, Ahmed/Aman (transcript variant), Weary, Thorstad/Thorstead (transcript variant), Gust, Forrest and Gough voted in the affirmative and the motion carried.
The commission provided no additional discussion on leadership responsibilities beyond staff's overview that the chair typically runs meetings and staff will support the elected officers. No contested nominations were recorded and commissioners did not identify outstanding procedural objections.
The commission moved on to its scheduled public hearing and work-program items after completing elections.
