Curriculum team launches math task force and promotes teacher conference

Edie Porter, director of curriculum and instruction, introduced the curriculum and instruction (CNI) team and stressed cross‑unit collaboration among classified staff, certificated staff and specialists. The team described itself as "Imagineers" — a model the presenters used to explain how small ideas are taken through planning, piloting and implementation across schools.

The CNI team promoted the district’s teacher conference scheduled for February 2 (starting in the Sanchez Cafeteria) and said the event demonstrates collaborative professional development across multiple departments. Porter also announced the launch of a math task force that will act as a pilot team; the work is expected to span roughly a year to 1.5 years and will include teacher learning on math instructional frameworks, selection of pilot resources with county office collaboration, ordering and delivery, and professional development for coaches and teachers ahead of any broad recommendation.

Trustees praised the team’s collaborative approach and asked about successes and frustrations; presenters said timely ordering, distribution and reliance on external publishers are both a success and a recurring operational frustration when deliveries lag. The board thanked the CNI team and encouraged continued partnership with classified staff and site librarians.

Next steps: the CNI team will run the task‑force pilot, coordinate with the county office for resource selection, and report back with pilot recommendations after the professional‑development cycle.
