Warrick County Solid Waste Management District staff told the board Jan. 15 that the district’s oldest front‑end loader — about 23–24 years old and out of service for roughly eight to nine months — would cost an estimated $11,000–$14,000 to repair. Given the age and condition, the board agreed to declare the machine surplus and sell it by sealed bid under state law. Acquisitions administrator Sherry Sievers explained the process and cited applicable code: once declared surplus the staff will advertise twice in the newspaper under IC procedures and open sealed bids at the next meeting; the sale will go to the highest bidder. Sievers said a trade‑in estimate of $5,000 exists and that the board could avoid the lower advertising threshold based on that value. The motion to declare the loader surplus and sell it according to the recommended sealed‑bid process carried by voice vote.
