The Coffee County Board of Education approved three budget amendments Jan. 12 to add a state mental‑health grant, correct internal budget lines (including restoring $40,000 for athletic lighting), and record a TSBA grant for the Teen Health Advisory Council.
The Coffee County Board of Education unanimously approved three budget amendments at its Jan. 12 meeting to record new grant funding and correct accounting lines, board members said.
Finance officer Miss Nelson presented the first amendment to accept a state grant for a mental‑health team. "This is a new grant that we received, from the state," she said, describing funds for professional development, substitute teachers and family engagement. The board approved the amendment by roll call; the chair announced, "That passes 6 2 0."
A second amendment adjusted internal budget lines and reopened a prior purchase order that needed to be carried into the current year to complete athletic lighting work. Nelson said $40,000 would be moved from fund balance back into a capital line to cover athletic lighting charges; the amendment was approved by the same vote tally.
A third amendment added a TSBA grant to support the Teen Health Advisory Council, covering substitutes and transportation for student participation. That amendment was also approved by roll call.
Nelson also presented a November budget update: November revenue was $4,497,785 (about 35% of budget) with roughly $1,092,000 local, about $3.3 million state and $50,000 other. November expenditures were about $4.2 million (36.93% of budget). The board voted to approve the budget update.
Board discussion during the budget update included clarifications about timing of federal reimbursements and the source of some bonus payments. No member objected to recording the grants or the budget corrections at the meeting.
Actions recorded at the meeting will be reflected in the district’s financial records; Nelson said she will provide detailed lines on request.
