Essex board adopts remote participation policy, names emergency-management officials and emergency-operations plan

At its Jan. 13 meeting the Essex County Board of Supervisors approved a set of governance and emergency-management items, including a remote participation policy, multiple appointments and an updated emergency operations plan.
The board unanimously adopted Resolution 26-003, the annual remote participation policy. During discussion members clarified that remote participation requests are typically submitted by email to the chair and are deemed approved unless a board member objects; the policy allows committees to adopt similar procedures if they wish.
By voice vote the board appointed Rob Akers as the county's Director of Emergency Management. The board then appointed Kyle Durham as Coordinator of Emergency Management and Chief of Emergency Services and named Mitchell West Packet as Deputy Coordinator.
The board also adopted Resolution 26-004, the county's emergency operations plan. The measures were presented as part of routine governance and continuity planning for Essex County.
