Dr. Mike Barr presented the monthly construction and East Floss report at the Jan. 6 work session, summarizing progress across the district’s capital projects.
He said backlit cabinets and message-board sign components had been installed at several schools, with final electrical connections pending. At Newton College and Career Academy, the sign location is under review because of roadway changes at Brown Bridge Road. Furniture installation for East New Elementary is on schedule for summer 2026.
The East Plus athletic improvement project is advancing: at Alcovy High, a field house and storage building are nearing completion and metal-seam roofing is underway; artificial turf preparation and grading are nearly finished. At Eastside High, buildings are fully enclosed and interior work — electrical, mechanical and painting — is underway, while artificial turf installation and track underlayment preparation are in progress. Across five middle schools, grading and concrete slab work for concession and restroom buildings have been completed and crews are installing footers and plumbing rough‑ins. At Eastgate Elementary, exterior work includes a new aluminum canopy for the car-rider turnaround.
Barr said updated photographs and detailed project information are posted on the EastWest tracker on the district website.
