Council approves jail pay-range increases and salary-ordinance corrections

Councilors voted to increase overtime ranges for correctional positions to $40.93–$65 per hour and to expand the part‑time range to $14–$30 per hour to align pay lines with market pressures and recent base-rate increases. Jordan Miller, the county financial manager, described the changes as housekeeping to reconcile the salary ordinance with the approved budgets and to reduce the need for annual ad hoc adjustments.
Separately, the council approved moving three captain positions out of the county general fund and into the correctional fund so the salary ordinance reflects the positions’ budgeted fund source.
Council members discussed fund-balance display quirks tied to crossover accounting and the upcoming annual financial report due in February. After discussion, both amendments were approved by roll call votes.
