The La Porte County Sheriff’s Department Merit Board elected its 2026 officers at a public meeting Jan. 14, approving Jim Kimmel as president, John Berger as vice president and Jim Miller as secretary.
The meeting opened with a roll call and the Pledge of Allegiance. When the board moved to elections for the year, an unnamed member nominated Jim Kimmel for president; the nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote. Nominations for vice president and secretary followed: John Berger and Jim Miller were each nominated, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The chair thanked members for their support and noted the officers are slated for service through 2026. No ballot counts were recorded in the meeting transcript; the board used voice votes for each officer election.
The board’s next regular meeting was announced for Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 9 a.m.
