Court agrees to participate with city, school district in reviewing lobby/advocacy applicants

The Val Verde County Commissioners Court voted to allow the County Judge to participate with the city and local school district in reviewing applicants for a jointly funded state and federal lobby/advocacy service.
The County Judge said he had received an email from a city official (Mr. Chavez) requesting county participation in applicant review. The judge clarified the request was to sit with city and school district review panels and that any selection or appointment would still need formal approval by the commissioners court. "Anything further than that, it will still have to come back for the court to do for us to to agree to the individual," the judge said.
Commissioners approved the judge’s participation by motion, with no commitment to fund or appoint any candidate without returning to the court.
What’s next: The judge will participate in applicant interviews with city and school district representatives and report back to the commissioners before any formal appointment is made.
