Jacob Weiland told the Mount Lebanon School District Board on Jan. 12 that he has offered his resignation from the Board of School Directors, citing growing professional and personal obligations that make it difficult to continue serving.
"Professional and personal obligations are growing which are both good. But it's made it difficult for me to continue to maintain everything that's necessary for me to serve as this position deserves," Weiland said.
Solicitor guidance and options: The board’s solicitor advised that the board has 30 days to fill the vacancy and that any interview process and appointment decision must be conducted in public. Board members discussed options including immediately appointing a former board member, accepting volunteer service from Ann Marie Johnson to fill the seat for two years, or following the district's policy that includes a public call for candidates and interviews. One board member reminded the group that the board followed an interview-and-appointment process in 2023 for a vacancy that exceeded one year to the next election.
Next steps: The board indicated it will address the vacancy at an upcoming public meeting and anticipated voting on acceptance or appointment within the 30-day window. Weiland indicated his resignation is effective upon the board's vote to accept it and expects the board will act at its next meeting.
