Council approves $37,266 in CDBG funds for senior minor home-rehab program

The Sierra Madre City Council held a public hearing and approved a resolution to allocate Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to its senior minor home rehabilitation program.
Planner Caitlin Huang told the council, "The city is expected to receive about 37,266 dollars in CDBG funds for the next fiscal year and does plan to allocate these to our successful and existing, minor home rehab program for our seniors." Huang said the program completed about eight projects in the past two years, including reroofs, window replacements and tub-to-shower conversions.
Council members confirmed program eligibility: Huang said eligible households are low- and moderate-low income seniors with the program qualifying age set at 65. Huang noted flyers with income brackets are available on the city website and at City Hall.
Council member Robert Parkhurst moved to approve resolution 26-7 authorizing allocation of FY26–27 CDBG funds to the senior minor home rehabilitation program; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Staff indicated no public testimony opposed the allocation and that the item had been publicly noticed at the temporary library, City Hall, the senior center and on the city website.
Next steps: staff will administer the program with CDBG funds in the coming fiscal year and continue outreach to eligible seniors about application procedures and flyers.
