Board accepts 2024 audit; auditors issue clean opinion and cite segregation‑of‑duties finding

Independent auditors presented the district’s 2024 audit and delivered an unmodified, or "clean," opinion on the financial statements, the auditors said. The engagement also included required reports under Government Auditing Standards and a single‑audit review of federal programs; the auditors reported no compliance findings for federal programs tested but did note one repeat internal‑control finding involving segregation of accounting duties.

The auditor explained that resolving the segregation finding would likely require additional FTEs in accounting or more restrictive system access—both of which carry costs—and that compensating controls had reduced the severity of the finding this year. "To eliminate that finding, it would take additional FTEs in the accounting department," the auditor said.

Board members discussed compensating controls, the practicality and cost of staffing changes, and how the district will address findings. The board then moved to accept the audit report; the motion carried on a voice vote.

The acceptance gives the district a clean independent audit opinion for the year, while the board directed finance leadership to continue reviewing controls and to provide updates about remediation options.
