Summary
District administrators announced a 'Power of 15' campaign to encourage students to earn at least 15 dual-credit hours before graduation, new graduation requirements (postsecondary commitment starting Aug. 2026), expanded internships and apprenticeships, and new course offerings including AP cybersecurity.
District 88 administrators devoted a substantial portion of the Jan. 12 meeting to college-and-career readiness updates, describing new course offerings, expanded internship and apprenticeship pathways, and a marketing push called "Power of 15" to encourage students to earn at least 15 dual-credit hours before graduation.
The district said planning for course selection starts in October and counselors are meeting with students for next-year scheduling. New courses highlighted for the coming year included AP cybersecurity, youth apprenticeship and internship options, Foundations of Civics, a Blazer Cafe program, and Arabic 3 honors. Administrators said they are expanding internship and apprenticeship placements and strengthening alignment of coursework to career pathways.
Starting in August 2026, the district said it will require students to have a documented postsecondary commitment (two-year, four-year, technical school, military, or workforce) and at least one career-related experience such as an internship, job shadow, apprenticeship, or industry credential. Staff said these experiences will be logged in the district's School Links platform and that career-pathway resources are posted online.
Administrators also emphasized dual-credit partnerships (noting close to 50 dual-credit courses with the College of DuPage) and plans to market options to students and families so more graduates leave with college credit.
