Monroe Local expands career pathways: new medical, tech and internship programs with Butler Tech partnership

"Currently, today, as we sit, we have 131 students in our Butler Tech programs," Brett Guido said, noting that represented about 69.28% of the Monroe population participating in Butler Tech satellite programming. He described satellite classes (career & college readiness, culinary, engineering), reported specific student counts in several programs, and highlighted upcoming ribbon‑cuttings for advanced manufacturing and bioscience facilities.
District curriculum staff reviewed an MHS "Future Ready" playbook that adds a one‑year medical terminology course and a semester health science and technology course, plus semester courses in cybersecurity and coding/game design, and journalism options. Staff tied some changes to retirements among Butler Tech instructors and said they plan interviews to staff new medical courses; one semester course would target ninth and tenth graders.
The presenters also described an internship initiative intended to place 35–45 students directly with industry partners for hands‑on experience. Board members asked about integrating AI and ensuring students receive in‑person, career‑relevant experiences rather than substituting full‑time CCP (college credit) enrollments that keep students off campus.
Trustees praised the emphasis on pathways and voted to accept the informational presentation; curriculum approvals will follow as staffing and course proposals are finalized.
