Dade County adds vehicle purchases, EMS and equipment contracts to consent agenda and approves them

The Dade County Board of Commissioners on Thursday added several vehicle procurements and equipment contracts to the consent agenda and approved them by unanimous roll call.
Chief Deputy Tommy Bradford asked commissioners to approve bids from Prater Ford for two patrol vehicles to replace an accident-damaged car and an F-150 for animal control, noting Prater’s quotes were among the lowest and that some equipment could be transferred from existing vehicles. Bradford said insurance proceeds of $16,900 will be applied toward replacement costs.
"And that's a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty," Bradford said when describing the extended coverage offered with the lower Prater Ford bid.
Captain Chad Payne described a used 2020 Transit 350 transport van the jail located through a regional contact, telling the commission the vehicle had about 7,000 miles and all‑wheel drive and offering two purchase quotes: approximately $52,069 without the extended warranty and roughly $55,937 with a six‑year/100,000‑mile warranty. Payne said the van already includes a prisoner enclosure, DVR camera system and other installed safety equipment; he recommended the purchase because it is substantially cheaper than buying new.
"It's not like something we're ordering...it's sitting on a lot," Payne said, urging the commissioners to consider the used, low‑mile option.
Alex Case and EMS staff presented three bids to replace a donated EMS vehicle that has developed transmission problems; Prater Ford submitted the lowest base price and was the only bidder to offer a platinum five‑year/100,000‑mile warranty. Case said total costs for the recommended unit plus the extended warranty were in the mid‑$55,000 range; separate equipment and upfit bids (lights, consoles, radio mounts) were discussed, with an equipment quote from Dana Safety Supply of about $19,489.
The clerk read the consent agenda aloud, which also listed a copier contract for the administrative office and several resolutions and MOUs. After a motion and second, the commission recorded votes from Dr. Pullen (yes), Commissioner Woods (yes) and the chair (yes). The motion passed unanimously.
The approved consent agenda authorizes procurement steps and places the listed purchases on the county’s procurement track; the full equipment installation costs and final upfit invoices were not finalized at the meeting and will be returned to staff for procurement and budget reconciliation.
