MSD Steuben County board accepts donations and authorizes grant applications including $25,000 Montessori SCCF request and up to $40,000 childcare grant

MSD Steuben County’s Board of Trustees on Jan. 13 authorized acceptance of multiple donations and approved pursuing two grant opportunities intended to support elementary programming and summer childcare.
Superintendent reported donations from Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority, Wagler and Associates, and Salem Center Church, which will be deposited into the MSD Foundation and distributed at the district’s discretion for elementary schools and the ACE Academy.
The board also authorized moving forward with a Steuben County Community Foundation (SCCF) grant application for Pleasant Lake Montessori. Administration said Sarah Clary submitted an initial request; the grant would provide $25,000 over two years to expand outdoor programming in partnership with Scouting America. The board voted to permit completion of the final application and to accept funds if awarded.
Separately, administration requested permission to apply for a state school-aged childcare grant administered by the State Office of Early Childhood and Out-of-School Learning. Because the district’s Early Learning Center is a Level 4 Paths to Quality program, administrators said the program is eligible to seek up to $40,000 (reimbursement basis) to cover summer program materials, field trips and experiences; the board authorized application and acceptance if awarded.
Both grant-related motions passed on roll-call votes.
