Kenston Community Ed marks 50th anniversary; district to host large Science Olympiad

Kenston Community Ed (KCE) representatives briefed the board on the program’s 50th anniversary activities and a proposed fundraiser to install turf on Fields 4 and 5.
Jen Moore, speaking for KCE, said the organization — described in the meeting as operating at about a $1.3 million scale and serving toddlers through seniors — will mark its diamond anniversary with events and fundraising. Moore said a turf fundraiser is being organized and that organizers will return to the board for required approvals once plans solidify.
Separately during public comment, Maggie Colicchio, head coach for the Kenston Science Olympiad, invited the public to the district-hosted tournament on Jan. 17. Colicchio said the invitational draws about 77 teams representing 43 schools, and the meeting transcript records a public estimate of about 1,500 students and volunteers visiting from several states.
Colicchio thanked district staff — custodial, athletics and administration — for logistical support and noted many volunteers are required to set up, run and take down the event. The board and superintendent publicly thanked KCE and Science Olympiad organizers for their work supporting students and extracurricular opportunities.
The district website and posted materials will carry event details and ticket information, the superintendent said.
