Summary
At its Jan. 12 organizational meeting the Kenston Local School District Board of Education elected Tom Hennig president and Beth Krauss vice president, approved board assignments and moved regular meetings to a 6:00 p.m. start for 2026.
Tom Hennig was elected president of the Kenston Local School District Board of Education at the board’s Jan. 12 organizational meeting, and Beth Krauss was elected vice president.
Nominations were made from the floor: a board member nominated Hennig for president and Jim Henry seconded the nomination. After nominations were closed the board took a roll-call vote and elected Hennig. Similarly, Krauss was nominated and elected vice president by roll-call vote. Each newly elected officer received the statutory oath of office administered at the meeting.
The board also approved routine organizational assignments. Krauss was named the board’s legislative liaison to the Ohio School Boards Association, and Gertha (Gertha/Ge rtha) Smith was named the student achievement liaison. The board designated its OSBA delegate and alternate for the upcoming conference (the chair as delegate and Ben Timmons as alternate) and appointed Jim Henry as the district representative to the Auburn Career Center for a two-year term effective Jan. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2028.
Members also voted to change the regular meeting start time for 2026 from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The chair said the earlier start was intended to make meetings easier for students who present and for staff with early-morning schedules. The board adopted the calendar of meeting dates with the 6:00 p.m. start times.
Votes on the organizational motions were taken by roll call. The public record in the meeting transcript shows board members responding individually when called; where individual members abstained or noted conflict on later routine business the roll calls are recorded in the transcript.
The organizational portion of the meeting concluded with an adjournment vote; the organizational meeting was closed before the regular board meeting resumed.
