Fire marshal: December inspections, investigations and school outreach reported

Fire Marshal Donahue told commissioners that the office completed 212 property inspections in December covering 364 units, and that the total number of inspections for 2025 was 2,541. He said the office handled two requests for smoke-detector evaluation/installation, reviewed 27 fire-and-life-safety plans that generated $1,300 in fees for the month, and opened 11 investigations in December (seven fire investigations and four code/hazard-related inquiries).
Donahue said the department participated in 7 public fire-and-life-safety events in December; deputy fire marshal Kelly provided five educational events at Norwalk Public Schools, and the marshal’s office conducted outreach at facilities including Temple Shalom preschool (about 150 students) and community holiday events.
Donahue said three newly promoted deputy fire marshals completed fire-life-safety public educator training and are training on new code-enforcement software; they will begin the fire-investigation portion of state training in Hartford in February.
Commissioners thanked the marshal for the report; no formal action was taken.
