Norwalk City outlines station renovation schedule; Station 4 design, RFP and $4M budget noted

Norwalk City fire officials briefed commissioners on a multi-station renovation program and a timeline for Station 4.
Assistant Fire Chief Mark told the commission on Jan. 20 that final design drawings for Station 4 had just been received and were under review. He said the department expects to post an RFP for contractors in March–April and aims to begin construction in the summer, with the goal of completing the full renovation by 2027. Construction Manager Avi Tucci was identified as the contractor selected during the design phase.
Mark also provided status updates on other facilities: Station 1 (Broad River/New Canaan Avenue) recently completed floor replacement and awaits window and roof work; Station 2 is being adapted to be more public-facing for permit activity; Station 3 (Van Zandt Street) will pursue parking-lot repaving in coordination with the 3rd Taxing District, which owns the building; Station 5 will add a gear-locker room to meet NFPA requirements separating turnout gear from apparatus bays; and Station 6 (Apparatus Maintenance Building) will receive a replacement generator and future apron/entrance repairs are being priced for next year’s budget.
A commissioner asked for the budget for Station 4 during the meeting; staff responded that the budget is $4,000,000.
No formal votes on project funding were taken at the special meeting. Staff said they will post RFPs this spring and return with contracting and schedule updates as procurement proceeds.
