The Aurora East USD 131 Board of Education voted Dec. 15 to approve a contract agreement between Service Employees International Union Local 73 and the district covering 2025 through 2029. Board President Fuentes read the motion to approve the agreement and asked for questions before calling the roll.
Board members praised the outcome as the result of months of negotiations. Fuentes said the agreement “reflects months of good faith, discussions, mutual respect, and shared commitment to supporting the staff who keep our district running every day.” Dr. Halvorsen noted the agreement had been ratified by the union the prior week.
The board conducted a roll-call vote after brief requests to review the contract; the motion passed on the record. No board member raised a formal dissent during the vote.
The contract was presented as a multi-year agreement intended to provide stability for employees and allow the district to plan its staffing and budgeting. Board members said the administration will provide the board with implementation details as needed in follow-up reports.
The board moved on to the consent agenda after approving the contract. No public comment was recorded on the agreement during the meeting.
Next steps: the district will work with SEIU Local 73 and administration staff to implement provisions of the ratified contract over the coming months.
