Separately, the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) notified the county of a $31,210 award to fund a new school safety position; staff told the board the position will be managed and paid by Amelia County Public Schools, and that the local match is already covered by previously appropriated personnel funds, so no additional county funds are requested for the match.
A supervisor moved to approve appropriations for both awards (USAC reimbursement $51,976.28; DCJS award $31,210) and the motion carried by hand vote. The board was advised that timing of the USAC reimbursement depends on federal action to release the funds.
