The Westport Board of Selectmen on Jan. 14 unanimously approved routine meeting minutes and tax-refund recommendations from the town tax collector.
The board voted 3-0 to approve the public-meeting minutes from Dec. 10, 2025. Selectman 2 moved to approve and the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Christine Allison, Westport tax collector, recommended refunds under Connecticut General Statutes §12-129 totaling $30,415.89. Allison said the amount represents two real-estate and three sewer-use refunds and 31 motor-vehicle refunds from tax years 2022–24 and explained that refunds are issued when claimants request them in writing. "Most of them are leasing companies, so they know the process and they'll request it," Allison said. When a payee cannot be located, she said, it is uncommon but can occur if a recipient has moved without a forwarding address.
Selectman 3 asked about the town's process for unclaimed refunds; Allison reiterated that the statute requires a written request and that unclaimed refunds are rare. After the board's brief questions, Selectman 2 moved to approve the refunds "as read," the motion was seconded, and the board approved the request.
No public comments opposed the actions. The board proceeded to other agenda items.
