Bond projects: high school 56% complete; Fulton elementary near finish but some delays expected

Contractors and the district gave trustees a monthly update on the 2022 bond projects at the May 13 meeting.

Teal/Claycomb reported the high school is approximately 56 percent complete, with money authorized at $22,100,000 and a total contract value shown as $39,240,000. Work described in the presentation included masonry, drywall, glazing, plumbing and mechanical rough‑ins; the slide package listed substantial completion in December 2025.

For Fulton Elementary the presentation showed 92 percent complete, money authorized $11,870,000 and full contract value $12,870,000 with a scheduled completion shown as June 2025. Michael Miller, vice president at Skilled Construction, told the board there were three independent delays outside the contractor’s control, including unanticipated structural items discovered while converting a cafeteria into classrooms. He said the project remains under budget but those issues have pushed some classroom turnover into June; the team said they will continue efforts to bring the schedule forward where possible.

Miller also said the high school’s contractual completion date was adjusted internally to February 7 after earlier start‑of‑project delays but that December remains attainable if trades and materials fall into place. District staff referenced ongoing punch‑list work and coordination with the fire marshal and inspectors ahead of student occupancy in August.

No board vote was required on the construction updates; trustees thanked contractors and noted community donations tied to graduation and student events.
