Recovery center seeks county sponsorship for Tilton expansion; commissioners agree to hold CDBG hearings

Michelle, president and CEO of Entreiz, asked the Board of Commissioners to support a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application to complete a second-floor addition at a recovery and family resource center located in Tilton. She said Entreiz has secured $1.0 million from the Northern Border Regional Commission and was seeking $500,000 in CDBG funds to complete the estimated $1.8—2.2 million project.
Michelle said town-level leadership turnover delayed the project and caused the applicant to miss prior deadlines, which is why she asked the county to sponsor the application. Community Development staff explained that the county is eligible for up to $500,000 in the relevant allocation cycle and that the CDBG process requires public hearings hosted by a municipal sponsor. Staff said Donna Lane or John Lane (the CDBG administrator) would take the lead on administering any award and that the county could take an administrative fee allowed under CDBG rules.
Commissioners agreed to say they were interested in sponsoring and to hold public hearings before the December application filing; no commitment of county funds was made at this meeting and the board reserved the right to decline after hearings.
