The Machesney Park Planning and Economic Development Committee on Nov. 3 voted to forward positive recommendations on two brief land-use items: a variance for an oversized electronic billboard at 7600 West Lane Road and a special-use permit to expand warehousing at the former McChesney Park Mall (McChesney Town Center).
Ordinance 43-25: Billboard variance — Staff described a request from the Life Dispensary and event center for an electronic billboard visible to interstate motorists. The proposed sign would be 42 feet tall and about 1,472 square feet and would exceed the village’s freestanding-sign height, area and masonry-base requirements. Staff and the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval; the committee voted to forward the variance with a positive recommendation to the Nov. 17 board meeting.
Ordinance 44-25: Warehouse special-use permit — Staff said the former McChesney Park Mall is a candidate for warehouse reuse, that warehousing is already present elsewhere in the town center, and that prospective tenants are lined up. Staff recommended approval with standard conditions; the committee voted to forward a positive recommendation to the board.
What happens next: Both items will appear on the village board agenda for final action on Nov. 17, 2025. Staff advised that signage approvals and changes of use will be subject to any standard permit conditions listed in the staff reports.
