During general public comment the council heard from community members on recovery governance, racial equity and an allegation of an abduction.
Nina Tovesh congratulated council on completing recovery-board appointments and offered volunteers who participated in the realignment working group to assist with coordination. Jonathan Wayne Scott urged the council to account for persistent racial disparities amid local economic change, citing historic practices that disenfranchised Black residents and saying revitalization has not produced proportional gains for the Black community.
A later speaker alleged that Haydell Imaya Sanchez "was taken outside the Buncombe County courthouse by federal agents in an unmarked vehicle" and described continuing attempts to abduct that person; the speaker framed the claim as a plea for council attention. The allegation was made during public comment and is presented here as an unverified claim recorded in the meeting transcript; council did not take official action on the allegation during the meeting.
Council thanked the speakers and closed public comment; staff did not announce follow-up action in response to the abduction allegation during the meeting.
