Speaker 10 presented the Baldwin County Public Schools' October 2025 financial report, saying all accounts have been reconciled and that the month produced a budget shortfall.
"This month alone, we had about $26.7 million in revenue and $34.1 million in expenses," Speaker 10 said, adding the result was a monthly deficit that brought the general fund balance to roughly $80.9 million and left the district with about two-and-a-half months of reserves — above the state's one-month requirement.
The presenter told the board the October figures reflect timing in property tax collections and that local revenue for the month was about $8.7 million compared with about $2.8 million in October 2024, which he attributed to property tax receipts arriving earlier this year. He described the 1% local sales tax as "pretty flat" year over year.
Speaker 10 also reviewed year-to-date budget-to-actual percentages, noting October represents roughly 8% of the fiscal year and that expenses are tracking near expectations at about 8% of budget. He invited questions from the board after the presentation.
The board did not take any formal vote on the financial report at the work session. The district said the month-to-month deficit is driven by normal collection timing and one-time annual cycles in local revenue; officials said reserves remain above the state's minimum requirement and that the administration will continue to monitor spending and receipts.
