Council members described the candidate pool as strong and said Anderson’s background matched the city’s needs. “We selected a gentleman named Mr. Jason Anderson … we felt very competent in our selection,” the council reported during the meeting. The vote was taken by voice and carried.
The appointment follows an exhaustive search to replace Jerry Simon, who will retire after 30 years of service on Oct. 11. Council leaders said they will announce a transition plan publicly and will introduce Anderson at upcoming events, including the South Dakota Municipal League conference. The council did not discuss details of a separation agreement with the outgoing administrator at the public meeting.
Next steps: Anderson will begin transition activities in late September and attend the municipal league conference with city staff before his official start date.
